| Nathaniel Baird was born in
Yetholm in Roxburghshire and studied in Edinburgh,
London, and France. The artist exhibited his work
beginning in 1883 at the Royal Academy, the Society of
British Artists, and the Royal Institute of Painters in
Oil-Colours, to which he was elected a member in 1897.
He lived and painted in various locations in the south
of England, including Dawlish, Exeter, Lewes, and
Henley. Baird continued to exhibit actively until the
1930s and the majority of his subjects are rustic
country landscapes – particularly views with plough
teams and rural figures. The Victoria and Albert Museum
in London has twenty four works by Baird in its
collection, and paintings by Baird are in several other
museums in England. |
