Berthe Des Clayes was one of three sisters who came from Aberdeen to Montreal in 1912. Each sister would become a painter of note in her own right but Berthe would be the most recognized.

Berthe studied in Paris at the Academie Julian and in London at the Herkomer School. She became known for pastoral scenes in pastel or oil.
