Alfred Fontville de Breanski was born into a family of painters: His father, Alfred de Breanski Sr., was a highly regarded Victorian landscape painter; his Welsh mother, Annie Roberts (de Breanski), was also an accomplished artist; and his uncle, Gustave de Bréanski, was a noted seascape painter.  Alfred Jr. began his artistic studies at a young age, initially under the tutelage of his father and uncle. He continued with formal training at St. Martins School of Art (London) and later completed his studies in France. The artist exhibited with the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists.

Alfred de Breanski Jr.'s early pastoral and Highlands scenes bear a striking resemblance to the work of his father. The artist later moved to a more colourful, impressionistic style, often depicting garden scenes.
